DEFA hopes new rules will improve house share standards

It's hoped new rules will result in better living conditions for those live in houses of multiple occupation on the Isle of Man.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has been working with the Island's fire service, tourism board and local authorities to close loopholes governing such properties.

The regulations mean all buildings occupied by six unrelated people who share kitchens and bathrooms must be registered and undergo an inspection to ensure they meet the minimum standards.

DEFA believes the changes will put an end to people living in overcrowded and inadequate shared houses.
