An inquest into the death of a footballer from the Isle of Man revealed drugs played a part in his death.

26-year-old Louis Thornton - who was the captain of Corinthians - died during a trip to Liverpool to watch a Middlesbrough match in September last year.

Liverpool and Wirral Coroner's Court heard the post-mortem detected cocaine in his system, as well as alcohol.

The coroner revealed the cause of death to be a heart attack most likely brought on by the use of cocaine.

Tributes were paid to Thornton during Boro's Premier League match against Tottenham in September, while locals left flowers and shirts at Corinthians' home pitch.
