The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading is urging those who use tumble dryers to check whether their model could be dangerous.
Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda are warning some models made between April 2004 and September 2015 could pose a risk when excess fluff comes into contact with the heating element.
Engineers have already been visiting homes on the Island with the affected models, modifying the machines to make them safe.
Manx residents are being urged to visit to Hotpoint website and check whether their tumble dryer is affected. Anyone without access to a computer can contact the OFT directly.
Those with tumble dryers affected are urged not to use their machine and unplug it until an engineer has visited and made the necessary modification.
