Douglas Borough Council admits it's disappointed to have been taken to court over last year's November fireworks display.
The local authority was fined £250 by magistrates earlier this week for holding the event without a music licence.
The display had to be put back by 24 hours due to a technical problem with the fireworks.
The Council had the licence for the original time and date, but wasn't covered for the rearranged display.
In a statement, the board admits its error, but says it's regrettable that the case had to go before the court for a solely technical matter.
The sponsor of the event added that the action serves no public interest.
