The captain of the tug boat which assisted the Ben-my-Chree during its crash in Douglas harbour during strong winds at the weekend says the master of the vessel did a magnificent job.

The Wendy Ann had been booked to help the Steam Packet Company's vessel berth at low tide on Sunday evening, but the tug and the Ben both ran aground in soft mud before the latter clipped the pier.

In a statement on Facebook, the captain revealed the wind never dropped below 40 knots while the Ben was docking.

The captain of the tug also criticised those who blamed the Steam Packet for the incident while commenting on footage of the crash on social media.

The Ben was able to return to service just over 24 hours after the collision after undergoing repairs.
