The Island's fishing authorities are looking to introduce a new system for issuing sea fishing licences.

All fishing vessels are currently charged the same licence fee every two years, regardless of the conditions of their licence.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is keen to bring in a system which includes a range of fees depending on the type of licence.

Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot will ask Tynwald for permission to issue one-year licences while options are explored further.

Current licences are due to expire at the end of March.
