No bids from local firms to run Villa Gaiety

Wed, 01 Feb 2017

The Economic Development Minister says the Government will continue to operate the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre due to a lack of interest from private operators.

The DED had been looking to outsourse the running of the venue, but were unable to find a company to do so.

Laurence Skelly revealed in this week's sitting of the House of Keys that two local operators expressed an interest, but never submitted formal bids to take charge of the facility.

Mr Skelly confirmed that his Department will continue as operator, and that it will review the pricing structure for local artists and performers who want to book the venue.

The Villa Gaiety costs more than £1m per year to operate, but already has more than 50 events booked for this year.
