Allinson's abortion bill receives Keys support

The House of Keys has given its support to an MHK looking to change the Island's abortion laws.

Ramsey member Alex Allinson received majority support from his colleagues to introduce a private members bill.

Dr Allinson, who also works as a GP, believes women on the Island should have the same rights as those in the UK.

Currently, most women have to travel off Island to undergo a private termination at their own expense, with abortions only carried out in special circumstances locally.

While one campaign group on the Island wants to see the changes made, a pro-life campaign group protested outside the House of Keys this morning.
