An MHK will ask Tynwald to support the introduction of a living wage when the Manx parliament sits next week.
Ramsey member Lawrie Hooper wants the Cabinet Office to look into the idea further.
The Liberal Vannin MHK will ask for support for the living wage, which would include a report into the move being presented to Tynwald in October.
The Government is already looking at the current minimum wage on the Island, and could make changes in the coming months.
The living wage is offered by some UK businesses to allow employees to take home a pay packet which covers the basic costs of living, such as bills, accommodation and food.
