The IoM Archery Club met at Onchan at the weekend for the first Sunday shoot since the Christmas break. The round of the day was a Portsmouth shot as part of the Club’s Scratch League. There were several new faces all of whom gave a good account of themselves.
Mike Ryan shooting for the first time in the Gents Compound division posted an excellent benchmark score but had to settle for fourth place unsurprisingly. Dave and Rhys Moore were neck and neck for the whole shoot with Dave emerging the victor by just one point. Pete Mumford came third.
Danny Cowin and Josh Trafford continued their rivalry in the Gents Recurve. Scores were level after two dozen arrows but Danny pulled out a 3 point lead by the end of the third dozen. Josh then put in a near flawless fourth dozen to overturn the deficit and open up a 4 point lead of his own. Cowin shot well in the final dozen but could not come back against Trafford who took the win by 5 points. Dave Berry took the last place on the podium with Dave Dougherty in fourth. Jim Rawson, shooting for the first time came fifth and David Smith shooting for the second time added a terrific 59 points to his pb to finish sixth.
Colin Moore elected to shoot a Barebow round while Tony Hartley employed his Trad Bow.
Joy Gough put in another solid round in the Ladies Compound but Barbara Harris was somewhat erratic in the Ladies Recurve finishing with an indifferent total.
In the Junior Gents Recurve Toby Young continued his run of good form to finish 93 points ahead of his nearest rival. Aaron Pannell-Cottier took second place with Jacob Brookes finishing third.
