Anyone who receives a phone call warning that they face a fine if they don't install a carbon monoxide alarm should put the phone down.
That's the advice issued by the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading following reports of cold callers contacting Manx households.
The caller claims peopole need to install an alarm due to new Government regulations, and that they may face a substantial fine is they don't comply.
However, the OFT says neither of these two statements are true, and that anyone receiving such a call should contact the OFT.
The organisation also warns that items sold by cold callers are more likely to be counterfeit or defective.
