Stables and a tram car depot for the Douglas Bay horse tram service could be built on the Summerland site.
Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer revealed that his Department has applied for planning permission to build a temporary structure on the site.
The Government has been offered the chance to buy the current Strathallan Depot from Douglas Borough Council, but believe the facility would need structural repairs, making it too expensive.
It's hoped the new building would allow the Department to continue to offer tours of the stables as well as providing a shop.
The DoI will operate the horse trams for the next two years, but could extend the service long term.
Mr Harmer says the temporary building at Summerland could be removed and re-used after the two-year period.
