The Isle of Man Government will look into bringing in an additional tax on soft drinks next year.

Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson called for the Treasury to support the principle of a tax on sugary products at this month's sitting of Tynwald.

The motion was amended to focus on soft drinks, but was approved by Tynwald members.

Mr Watterson claims the move will help raise Government revenue, as well as tackle unhealthy eating.

A similar tax will be brought in by the UK Government from April 2018.
