The introduction of a single resident record will be examined further by the Manx Government.

Tynwald has given the go-ahead to a feasibility study for the record, which it's hoped would speed up the public's dealings with Government bodies.

Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas brought the motion to this month's sitting, insisting the implications of holding such information need to be looked into.

The Government has 60 databases of personal information for Manx residents, which can mean people undergo several checks while speaking to Government.

If such a record is introduced in the future, it would require changes to a current legislation, and would have to comply with existing international laws, including the Human Rights Act.
