House of Keys rejects TT promoter debate

Members of the House of Keys turned down the chance to debate the Government's decision to end plans to appoint an independent promoter for the TT.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle delivered a statement in this week's sitting following confirmation that London-based Vision Nine will not be taking charge of the event, despite being selected to do so as part of a tender process.

Douglas East MHK Chris Robertshaw tabled an urgent motion asking Mr Quayle to explain further, but just six MHKs voted for the move.

Vision Nine and the Department of Economic Development have both confirmed that the events company intends to take legal action against the Government over the damage to its reputations and loss of the contract.

Mr Robertshaw wanted the Chief Minister to explain why Vision Nine had been informed so late in the process, and why the Government described the issue as sub judice - a restriction that only applies once legal proceedings are active.

Mr Quayle did confirm that the Government will be looking into what happened and reviewing how it promotes the TT in the future.
