Seventeen archers turned up on Sunday to shoot a WA18 round as part of the Club’s Scratch League. It was nice to see Tilly Ashton back after an illness had kept her out of competition.
For once Rhys Moore did not have plain sailing in the Gents Compound Division. A slow start put him in joint second place with Pete Mumford after the first dozen arrows. He steadied in the second dozen to take a one point lead over Dave Moore, but from then on a combination of solid shooting from Dave and rather lack lustre shooting from Rhys saw Dave secure the win.
Joy Gough was the sole entrant in the Ladies Compound division but in spite of a lack of competition she still managed to put in a season’s best score.
The Gents Recurve provided the largest field of the day. Josh Trafford took the win by a comfortable margin from Danny Cowin, while Tony Hartley grabbed the last place on the podium. Dave Berry put in a rather erratic round to finish in fourth, Alex Parkes came in fifth and Simon Jennings posted a personal best score to finish sixth.
Lone Lady Recurver Barbara Harris, struggled through the shoot and failed to break 500.
Toby Young had a convincing win over his fellow Juniors, finishing 29 points clear of his nearest rival. Joseph Reaney, newly returned from a school trip to China, was a little off form but still managed to claim second place. Jacob Brookes let loose a few wild arrows but finished in third. Aaron Pannell-Cottier recorded a pb for the round to finish fourth, while Nathan Kinrade had a bit of an off day to finish fifth.
