More than half the money needed to build a football stand in memory of a local player has been pledged in an online campaign.

Corinthians captain Louis Thornton died last month during a visit to Liverpool.

The campaign, which launched earlier this week, is aiming to raise £5,000 to design and build the stand at Corinthians' home pitch and name it after the 26-year-old.

As of Friday afternoon, £2,600 has been donated through a Just Giving page.
