Man jailed for smuggling cannabis

A man who smuggled more than 15kg of cannabis to the Island on the ferry has been sentenced to two years in prison.

51-year-old Alex Charles Conner from Huyton in Merseyside was caught bringing cannabis bush and resin to the Island as he drove off the Mannanan in June.

Conner initially denied knowing the substance was hidden in the vehicle, but later entered a guilty plea in court.

Deemster Montgomerie handed down two two-year sentences to run concurrently and issued an exclusion order, banning Conner from the Island for five years.
