Tracey Skelton who shot extremely well on Monday evening, in action at Sinclair Range

Fourteen shooters arrived at the IoM Shooting Club on Monday evening for the eighteenth and final round of the summer series of the clubs weekly competitions and a phenomenal final series of ten shots from Tracey Skelton in her last series, took her to second position, just .3 behind the winner of the Osborn Carpets scratch match, Harry Creevy. Five of Skelton’s six scores were excellent although average for this shooter however, her sixth and final set was outstanding 10.5, 10.9, 10.6, 10.6, 10.2, 10.8, 10.3, 10.8, 10.4, 10.8 = 105.9. Third highest gun score of the evening went to John Wood posting a score just 1.5 points in arrears of Creevy. During the summer months the weather has been unusually excellent for every round but Monday’s conditions were absolutely perfect – no wind and once Range Officer Brian Fozard had waited for the sun to set behind Sileau Whallian, the light was excellent and some good results were attained by several shooters.

Women rule in the Empire Garage Tynwald Shield and top slot goes to Sue Keown

Having shot only three or four matches, Sue Keown, the newest club member, is improving with each match, and on this occasion, a delighted Sue, left the remaining shooters in her wake, taking the final round of The Empire Garage Tynwald Shield Handicap by no less than 12.9 points! Tracey Skelton’s excellent scratch score gave her second slot from yet another young lady, Sharon Drysdale. Second to ninth shooters were separated by just 7.4 points.

Sadly, the 2016 Season of Monday evening IoM Shooting Club matches are now complete and I will hopefully be in a position to bring you the aggregate scores and successful shooters who have enjoyed a somewhat excellent series of the 18 competitions in a couple of weeks.

For those who may be unaware, the Shooting Club will continue to be available for 50 metre outdoor use on a Wednesday afternoons from 2.00 pm and Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10.15 am – 12.30 pm. The 15 yard indoor range will soon be available for members of the indoor teams to readapt to indoor competition.

Dates for your Diaries

The next outdoor match will be the IoM Shooting Club’s Monthly Handicap on September 4. See below.

PLEASE NOTE – AGM date change

There has been a change to the date of the Annual General Meeting of the IoM Shooting Club from that indicated on the Competition Programme for 2016.

It has been decided, rather than holding the club’s AGM and the Annual Prize Presentation as separate events, both will take place on Sunday, September 4 after the September Handicap match, followed by a ‘hog roast’ and BBQ to finish off the day and it is hoped that some ‘fun Shoots’ can be held but more will be revealed nearer the day. Times and price will be announced as soon as possible, but it would be helpful if you could let Mike Duncalf know by email on mdshooting@gmail.com to reserve a ticket as soon as possible.
