Co-management to sustain long term fishing industry

Better working relationships between fishermen and the government will aid the fishing industry in the long term.
That's the message from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture which is looking at continuing a closure in a southern bay in a bid to protect crab and lobster stocks.
As well as adhering to the closure, which has been in place for four years, fishermen have been compiling detailed data on their catches.
Closing several parts of the Island's territorial seas could help protect spawning populations and nursery habitats for commercial and conservation purposes.
