Local growers are being encouraged to enter the Christmas tree market after a shortage in 'suitably sized' trees.
Current policies mean replanting on selected plots in plantations has been limited and there are fewer of the larger trees available.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture usually grows and supplies them to churches, schools and government departments but says this year it will only be able to supply to local authorities.
