Damage to ancient monuments sparks education call

A spate of 'wilful criminal damage' to Manx National Heritage sites has prompted renewed efforts to protect the areas.

Two ancient standing stones in Maughold were 'defaced' and a fire pit and litter were left at a Keeil site.

Anyone caught defacing or injuring Manx historic monuments can face imprisonment or a fine up to £5,000 under the Manx Museum and National Trust Act of 1959.

PC Louise Kennaugh says she's working with MNH to improve signage and to educate people so they can't claim ignorance:
