SENIOR PODIUM SECURES HUTCHY TOP TT RIDER AWARD FOR 2016

Sat, 11 Jun 2016

Ian Hutchinson ended a long and successful week at the 2016 Isle of Man TT with second place in today’s six lap Senior TT aboard his Tyco BMW S1000RR – making it three wins and two second places for the Bingely ace, who now stands on 14 career wins at the iconic Manx event.

Ian posted laps of 132.887mph, 133.115mph, 133.080mph and 129.236mph en-route to his second place, making him the most successful rider at this year’s TT, and he said afterwards.

Ian Hutchinson: “I’d like thank my Tyco BMW team for a great job this week and BMW Motorrad for all their support. We made a few changes for the Senior and apart from a minor problem, the bike was faultless. It’s been a good opening TT on the BMW, with a win and two second places – as well as a few 132 and 133mph laps.

“I tried my best today and we were beaten, but we’ve also proved this TT that we have strong pace for the future. Looking back at the week, the win on the Superstock bike on Monday, proves just how good a package the S1000RR is in standard trim. I just love riding that bike.”

Philip Neill – Team Manager: “We can be very happy with our performance this week. TT win number 16 came for TAS Racing; two more Superbike podiums and Hutchy winning the award, as the most successful rider for TT 2016 is very satisfying.

“Of course we would have liked to have won one of the Superbike races however, the Superstock race is extremely important to us and to BMW Motorrad, as the S1000RR raced by Hutchy is very similar to the standard machine sold to customers to ride on the road.

“Although we enjoyed an extensive pre-season testing campaign this was our first TT with Ian and his first on BMW machinery, and as expected, we learned a lot from the experience, which we can now put to good use.

“We enjoyed a largely trouble free week, although a few small problems during the Superbike races did hamper Ian’s performance, although credit must go to our hard working team once again.

“With BMW Motorrad providing technical support at the event for all BMW competitors, it is great to see such a dominant performance, so congratulations to all BMW teams and riders on a very successful year for the brand.”
