President of Tynwald to retire

The President of Tynwald has confirmed she's retiring.

Clare Christian wrote to Tynwald Members yesterday to inform them of her decision - she says she wanted to let them know "personally" that she won't be seeking re-election.

It follows a 29-year career in Tynwald - she told her fellow politicians although "it isn't easy to quit the political arena" she's decided not to re-stand.

The first item of business at the July sitting of Tynwald will be to elect a new presiding officer for the next five years.
