Duncalf secures round 4 of The Osborn Carpets 1st 600 with an outstanding score

Fri, 20 May 2016

With perfect shooting weather conditions on Monday evening, Michael Duncalf posted a fantastic score of 618.00 which included 35X bulls, to secure round 4 of The Osborn Carpets 1st 600 from Ben Kelly, having now returned from Edinburgh University, in second position on 614.7. Sixteen year old Alex Trafford was delighted to learn that his score of 604.9 gave him a new metric personal best score although his standard non metric score of 580 was just a point short of his PB. No less than 8 competitors managed to score in excess of 600 and it was obvious that the Range Officers decision to wait for the sun to set was the correct decision.

Close scores at the head of the Empire Garage Tynwald Shield handicap match

Alex Trafford was the only shooter to manage to hit a “full house” of 100 – it looks like the youngsters recent positional problems have passed.

Kermode takes round 2 of the IoMSC 3 position match

Although we have only two local ladies who compete in the very difficult and demanding, three position matches, where the ladies shoot 20 shots kneeling, 20 shots prone and finally, 20 shots standing, both locals have quite different approaches to the match. Gemma Kermode is an experienced 3P competitor having competed regularly both on and off the Island, whereas Tracey Skelton is determined to learn this very difficult and trying discipline and is proving that determination is a worthy ally. On this occasion, on Sunday morning, once again under perfect weather conditions, Kermode showed her experience and managed to post a good series of scores of:- kneeling 94, 95 prone 96, 98 and standing 86, 91 = 560 (16XBulls) from Skelton’s scores of kneeling 95, 84 prone 84, 94 and standing 82, 65 = 504 (10XBulls).

Three compete in the ESSU Championships at Bisley

Three IoMSC members have been on the mainland competing in the English Small-bore Shooting Union Championships at Bisley and although there were no local major successes, all three shot very well and in doing so maintained the Islands highly regarded name within the shooting circle. As mentioned above, one of the three Gemma Kermode, once again competed in 1 Air Rifle and 2 small-bore prone matches and in the 10 metre Air Rifle match Gemma claimed eighth position with a series of scores 98.1, 100.9, 101.4, 99.6 = 400. In her 3P match Gemma posted - Kneeling 186, Prone 193, Standing 181 = 560 and was placed fifth and her final match was the 50 prone where thirteenth position was her final slot recording excellent series of scores – 100.4, 99.9, 98.9, 100.9, 99.2, 100.7 = 600.0. The others locals accompanying Gemma, were Mike Duncalf and Andy Potter, who both competed in the 50 metre prone event. In the elimination match, Duncalf claimed fifth position qualifying for the final with scores of 100.8, 101.8, 103.2, 103.2, 101.8 = 613 (27XBulls) and a rather disappointed Potter was twenty eighth posting 100.1, 101.2, 99.6, 100.0, 97.4, 99.5 = 597.8 (23XBulls) from a field of 36.
