Nursing shortage means lack of staff on ward overnight

Staff shortages on a medical and elderly ward at Noble's Hospital have left one nurse covering the night shift on their own.

That's the admission from the Department of Health and Social Care - Ward 5 is currently short of seven nursing staff.

Two nurses and two healthcare assistants should cover the overnight period however Minister Howard Quayle admits that doesn't always happen.

Bank staff are being used to try and plug the shortfall - Mr Quayle says he's hopeful that a long term solution can be found in the near future:
