Zero hour contracts in government on the rise

108 zero hour contracts have been handed to 'substantive' post holders in the public service in the last year.
Statistics released in the House of Keys yesterday confirmed that was in addition to 88 created in 2014 and 2015.
Onchan MHK Peter Karran said he didn't think that was a "healthy situation" and suggested it was an area that needs to be reviewed.
The increase in the number of contracts was blamed on staff capping within government- Policy and Reform Minister John Shimmin said some departments had to find a way to get around that freeze:
