New materials added to make roads last longer

15,000 tonnes of Manx road material has been recycled by Infrastructure.
The move to re-use the old material has seen a five-fold increase in the last five years, and generated budget savings.
Roads are also expected to last 30 per cent longer after the application of new products like fibre-reinforced asphalt and high stone content material.
Roads Maintenance manager Alan Harding says the go-green strategy used by the department is effective:
