No official policy to make children walk to school

An Onchan MHK has queried how much importance government puts on children walking to school.

David Quirk raised the issue in the House of Keys this week with the Department of Education and Children.

All children who live within a one-mile radius of their school are expected to walk and are encouraged to do so.

However department member Bill Malarkey says it isn't their responsibility to make that happen:
