Ban for man who drove with 'cocktail of drugs' in system

Sat, 12 Mar 2016

A man from Union Mills who drove with a "cocktail of drugs" in his system has been banned from the road.

50-year-old Roger Leece was stopped in Ramsey on November 21st last year - tests showed he had cocaine, cannabis and LSD in his system.

He later pleaded guilty to a charge of driving whilst unfit.

At Douglas Courthouse this week his advocate said the episode had been a big "wake-up call" and blamed stress for his decision to take the drugs the night before driving.

Leece had written a letter to the court apologising for his actions saying "I promise never to be so foolish again".

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes described it as a "very dangerous and reckless thing to do".

She ordered him to carry out 120 hours of community service, pay prosecution costs of £125 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
