Efforts are underway to try and change the law to give cats the same level of protection as other animals.
An online petition has been set up calling for an amendment to the Road Traffic Act so that motorists have to report when they hit a feline.
Douglas woman Sandra Tait is spearheading the campaign - she says she was left with 'unanswered questions' when her cat was hit and killed near her home two weeks ago.
