Judges on the Isle of Man have thrown out an appeal against the prison sentence handed to a "ruthless" sexual predator.

The High Court of Justice ruled in January that the 10 and a half year sentence against Peter Kewley would stand - the full details of the hearing have recently been made public.

In September last year the 68-year-old was convicted after trial of a series of indecent assaults against children under the age of 16 - his offending spanned almost 35 years between 1979 and 2014.

At the appeal hearing his advocate argued that the sentence was "manifestly excessive" due in part to the "nature and extent" of the offending.

However appeal judges ruled it was a case which merited "a very substantial custodial sentence" - to both punish Kewley and deter others from replicating his behaviour - they dismissed the application to reduce the time he'll spend in prison.
