The visitors at Sulby on Monday evening were the Division 1 leaders Port St Mary and although a tough match was envisaged, a win for the northern club by seven points would not have been expected. The loss for ‘Port was the first of the season and with two reasonably tight matches before the season ends for the southerners, the closing stages in Division 1 looks as if it may go ‘down to the wire’. Sulby have managed to hit 489 on five occasions over the season and 482 is the lowest Port St Mary have scored throughout their 15 match run. Divisions 2 and 3 went to the southern club which enhances their title ambitions in both those Divisions.
Teddy Sayle led the way for Sulby with a terrific 100 closely followed by Mark Cain and Will Quayle posting 98, Peter Faragher on 97 and Julian Teare making up the Division 1 team on 96. Championship leading junior, Ashley Gardner, Derek Kermode and another junior, Ryan Forrest all recorded 97’s for Port St Mary with Gary Knight on 96 and Kevan Kneale on 95.

Laxey take all the points at IoMSC Sandsiders
Laxey were the visiting team at Sinclair range, St Johns and the hosts were outshot due to the lack of members – IoMSC Sandsiders have many shooters either on holiday or unable to compete due to illness or injury and on this occasion, just six were available. Laxey recorded an excellent result of 488 led by Harry Creevy, Gemma Kermode and Suzanne Curphey all on 99, John Wood a little further behind on 96 and Judy Kee on 95. Sandsiders had Bill Jones on top with a 98, Andy Traynor posted 97 with junior Matthew Roosen and Tony Kneale both on 96 and another junior, Conner Rowe making up their Division 1 team on 90.

IoMSC Douglas maintain the pressure on the league at Kirk Michael
The village team at Kirk Michael are at times struggling for support but regularly continue to post some encouraging results but this week’s match went to the visitors in all three Divisions. Tom Lord managed a great 98 for the villagers closely followed by junior shooter, Illiam Christian, on 97 and the ‘intending bride’, Perryn Callister hitting 96. It was terrific to see Kevin Quinn who has had serious medical problems recently making up the Division 1 team and recording a 95 along with David Lord on the same score. I would like to think I speak on behalf of all those involved in shooting when we offer our best wishes to Perryn Callister when she married her Scottish fiancé, Colin Watson yesterday, February 29th (I am guessing the day was chosen so anniversary gifts would be restricted to every four years ! – wonder if you realised that Perryn !).
The title of leading shooter for the visitors went to Mark Osborn on 100, it’s been a long time Mark, followed by Nick Brown on 98, Dave Humphrey, Andy Potter and Tracey Skelton all on 97. All three divisions went to the visitors.

Nigel Christian wins the W S Cowin Trophy
Thursday evening saw the finals of the W S Cowin Trophy at Sinclair range, St Johns. The competition format is for the winner and second placed at club level to represent their clubs at the final round. It was unfortunate that Laxey were unable to field a shooter but apparently this was due to illness and injury. Some excellent results were confirmed by marker, Brian Fozard with the re-gauge system needing to be used regularly. In the final pairing of Port St Marys’ junior Ashley Gardner and Castletown rifle clubs’ Nigel Christian, the two matched each other shot for shot and a re-gauge was necessary once again to determine the winner.
