Punishments handed to burglars on the Isle of Man will be reviewed as part of a new Sentencing Bill.
However the Department of Home Affairs says the maximum 14-year sentence may already be tough enough.
Last month Deemster Alistair Montgomerie said he believed penalties needed to be "greatly increased" after last year's spate of burglaries turned us into an "island of fear".
Minister Juan Watterson says whilst he's happy to review the issue he thinks it may be the application of the penalty which needs addressing:
