Speeding motorists could be caught out by their neighbours - rather than the police - as soon as September.
The Department of Home Affairs will recruit volunteers for its Community Speed Watch scheme shortly - last year 73 people were convicted of speeding in 20mph and 30mph zones.
New proposals to ramp up fines are currently being considered.
Minister Juan Watterson says volunteers could help take the pressure off the police who have other priorities:
