Drug drive father was in no 'fit state' to be behind wheel

A father who took so many prescription drugs before driving that he entered into a "black tunnel" has been banned from the road for two years.

Police stopped 50-year-old Andrew Lewis-Brew on Albert Road in Ramsey on September 6th last year after reports he was driving in an "erratic manner" - he had his eight year old daughter in the car.

The Kirk Michael man was arrested and later pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit and possession of cannabis which officers had found hidden in his sock.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday Lewis-Brew's advocate told the court issues in his personal life had "built up" and he "regrettably and stupidly" decided to drive after taking a combination of pills.

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said she was prepared to treat it as a "one off" saying it was clear he wasn't a "drug crazed individual".

She ordered him to carry out 180 hours of community service, and pay prosecution costs, saying "you clearly weren't in any fit state to drive a car or look after your daughter".
