Major repair work to take place on Douglas linkspan

Almost half a million pounds is being spent on major refurbishment work to the government-owned linkspan in Douglas Harbour: 
 
The large hydraulic cylinders that operate the structure, and allow vehicles to load and unload, are at the end of their operational life. 
 
A new unit is due to be fitted by the end of the month - the cylinder that's removed will be reconditioned and then reinstalled later this year. 
 
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne is describing the £450,000 work as "mid-life refurbishment" and says it's not a total overhaul due to finances:
