Waste disposal fees frozen to help efficiency

Thu, 07 Jan 2016

Freezing waste disposal fees at the Energy from Waste Plant will help local authorities plan their finances with more efficiency.

That's according to the Department of Infrastructure which is changing the way it charges authorities who dump household waste at the facility.

From April they'll pay a proportion of the fixed costs of running the plant as an annual charge - as well as shelling out just over £20 for each tonne of waste they dispose of.

Fresh incentives for local authorities are also being planned to enhance their recycling efforts - the department says it's time to put the emphasis on doing "what is best" for the environment.
