Millionaire property developer and Island businessman Albert Gubay has died.
The 87-year-old passed away yesterday at his home in Wilmslow in Cheshire surrounded by his family.
The Derwent Group, which he founded, confirmed the news today saying he’d been ill for some time.
The Welshman made his fortune in retailing with Kwik Save before going into property development – he moved to the Island and built the Mount Murray complex in the 1990s.
He also received a Papal knighthood in 2011 after giving away half of his fortune to the Catholic Church.
