This season’s strong team and Division 1 leaders, Port St Mary, claimed the league points in all three Divisions when they visited their near neighbours Castletown, on Monday evening. Top shots for the visitors were Ean Brewis and Derek Kermode both on 98 with Ashley Gardner (Snr) and Eddie Maddrell just a point behind on 97. Junior Callum Grant made up the first Division on 96 giving a total score of 486 x 500.
A succession of scores in the mid 90’s were just not enough for the hosts where Shirley Caley and Nigel Christian led the way on 97 followed by Richie Arthur, Steve Gardner and Andy Bell all on 96. The obvious question to ask is “what happened to Henry Q this week?”
Once again, the Port St Mary squad show that they have an abundance of youth and the teenagers ensured the wins, specifically in Divisions 2 and 3 and it certainly looks as if coaches Derek Kermode and Peter Lewis have more youth on the horizon in the form of Isaac Heaton and 13 year old, Rhys Keown.

Another excellent score from IoMSC Douglas at Sinclair
IoMSC Sandsiders opposition this week was IoMSC Douglas and once again the Douglas team posted another terrific score of 490 x 500 in Division 1 some sixteen points ahead of the ‘home’ team. Leading for Douglas, Mike Duncalf managed a 99 with 98’s from Nick Brown, Andy Potter and Mike Clague. Mark Osborn made up the Division 1 team on 97. Ironically, IoMSC Douglas Division 2 score would have beaten the opposition’s Division 1 score!
For Sandsiders, Bill Jones hit 98 followed by junior Matthew Roosen, on 95. Andy Traynor and Steve Callus were just a point in arrears of Roosen, both posting 94. Bill Jones had to leave the match early to collect wife Liz, from the Airport on her return from surgery in Liverpool. We all look forward to her getting fit once again because the cake situation is getting rather serious in the Clubhouse. Get well soon Liz.

Laxey have an impressive win at Kirk Michael
Laxey travelled over Snaefell for their match against Kirk Michael and took the points in the two Divisions contested. Suzanne Curphey, for the visitors, led the way on 99 with Stephen Curphey and Gemma Kermode biting Suzanne’s heels on 98.
The home team are struggling for members but the ‘gutsy attitude’ from those involved continues week on week and on this occasion, ladies showed the gents how to shoot. Perryn Callister topped their Division 1 team with Suzanne McKnight a point behind on 97. Teenager Alex Trafford (who must have been on a high after passing his driving test theory at his first attempt) hit 95 as did David Lord who has been having equipment problems recently and it looks as if, with the help of his father, has everything is sorted.

Terrific news for the youth team in the NSRA Junior League
Four local teenagers have shot their first round of the NSRA Junior Postal League and Barry Jones has forwarded the results which prove to be exceptional. 39 teams of four are registered for this prestigious competition from all corners and Islands of the UK.
The team consists of Thomas Clague (IoMSCD), Alex Trafford (KM), Fergus Coulter (SLBY) and Matthew Roosen (IoMSCS). The squad posted a magnificent 394 x 400, the highest team score of the 39 teams competing and obviously lead their League, Division 2, by an incredible 11 aggregate points from Norfolk County and this Division 2 also includes an excellent team from Jersey Small-Bore rifle Association which in past years, has proved to be formidable opposition. The posted results for round 1 were:–
Thomas Clague 100
Alex Trafford 100
Fergus Coulter 97
Matthew Roosen 97
I am sure Alex Trafford will be delighted, as this will be his first 100 in competition.
