Local elections more powerful following decentralisation

Involvement in local authority elections gives residents more clout than ever before.

That's the message from one-time Douglas councillor, and now Douglas West MHK, Chris Thomas.

Since powers began devolving from central government - there are now authorities with bigger budgets than some government departments.

Councillors can now help change plans and policy in more diverse areas - something Mr Thomas insists is only in its infancy:
