Badminton Round-Up

Fri, 13 Nov 2015

There was a reduced fixture list for last weeks half term.  The closest match of the

week was in mixed league 2 where CuPlas St Ninians B beat Citywing Vikings B

by the odd game.

League results for the week ending 6th November 2015.

Mixed Leagues

League 2

CuPlas Callow St Ninians B 10 Citywing Vikings B 9

This was a close and exciting match between two well matched teams with experienced and newer players and some experienced players who haven’t played for a little while. St Ninians Julie Thomas, Sarah Corlett, Michael Harrison, Simon Fletcher and Vikings Alex Buck, Sam Spellman and Neil Brew winning all of their games.  St Ninians Pat Crease and Cara Corlett were unlucky to lose second womens to the visitors Csilla Buck and Sam Spellman in three 21/19 12/21 19/21 and second mixed proved to be a hard fought affair with St Ninians Simon Fletcher and Julie Thomas coming out ahead of David and Csilla Buck 16/21 21/8 21/17. A well played good spirited match all round. SC

League 4

Fencibles C 13  Speedy Parking Peel A 6

Doehle Corporate Selborne C 12 Cannell Print Rushen B 7

Good win for Selborne C against an under-strength Rushen B. Quite a turnaround at second mens as home team's Paul Sugden and Raymond Gawne lost 21/8 13/21 16/21 to Dave Leigh and Yan Chun Wang. After Rushen had conceded second womens, Selborne's Shibu Augustian and Adi Oen (making his debut) beat Michael Broadbent and Adrian Edwards 21/12 21/ 18.  Rushen's Amanda Munro and Lucy Kerr proved a little too strong winning first womens 21/18, 21/12 against Fe Gawne and Sue Young. Selborne's Raymond Gawne and Jane Casey won third mixed 21/17 21/13 - a brave effort by Dave Lee and Elaine Ronan though. Both top mixed went to third games - Oen and Young losing 16/21 21/11 13/21 to Rushen's Edwards and Kerr at second mixed whilst at first mixed Augustian and Fe Gawne won 21/13 20/22 21/12 against Broadbent and Munro to confirm Selborne's win.  RMcM

Designer Glass Castletown/Abbey B 207 Doehle Corporate Selborne B 233

As the match between Castletown Abbey B and Selborne B got underway on Monday it was looking to be a very close affair, just one point in it to Castletown Abbey after eight games played. In the end it was Selborne who managed to up their level in the final stages, taking greater control of the net and flat exchanges to pull out a 26 point win. The rematch will take place on the 1st of February. NT

League 5

Microgaming Marown C 159 Fencibles C 243

This was an entertaining match in which the youthful Fencibles C side had too much for Microgaming Marown C on the night. Highlight for Marown was a double win for Simon Sayle and Paul Coppell against Jake Vance and Ben Clague. Star performers on the night were Toby Cheung for Fencibles and Darragh Garrity for Marown.
