Division 1 deadlock between IoMSC Douglas and Port St Mary

Fri, 13 Nov 2015

Port St Mary arrived at St Johns at Sinclair on Monday evening with a team of seventeen which included seven juniors under the expert guidance of ‘Decky’ Kermode and true to form, Ashley Gardner junior claimed top slot in the Southerners results. Ashley was just a point ahead of Eddie Maddrell who is producing excellent results having just returned to the shooting scene after 30 years away. Ashley senior and junior George Dalton-Brown both hit 97 with Kevan Kneale making up the Division 1 team. For the hosts, Andy Potter led the way on 99 with Tracey Skelton and junior Christian Eaton, just point in arrears. Mike Clague and another junior, Sam Jones, made up their Division 1 team. Wins in Divisions 2 and 3 went to the southern team mainly due to the lack of shooters for IoMSC Douglas.

A close match had been envisaged, but it was down to the very last card marked to clarify the points in Division 1 for the top two teams. It was obvious that a 98 for the visitors would have given the match to the Southerners, a 97 would draw the match and in fact, due to work commitments, the late arrival of Ashley Gardner shot a perfect score as far as Douglas were concerned, as a 97 gave the home team a very valuable drawn league point.

Worthy of a mention, shooting under the IoMSC Douglas banner, are two young ladies new to the sport, Charlotte Brunt who has only shot in 3 matches and Sharron Drysdale who this week shot her first league match. Both are proving to be valuable members of the IoMSC Douglas squad and indeed, I am convinced, after witnessing them in training, both are improving rapidly and will become excellent shots.

Jones becomes the second shooter with a 100 this season so far

Kirk Michael were down to just 8 competitors this week when IoMSC Sandsiders visited and the lack of shooters created a poor result in both Divisions contested by the home team. Leading shots for the Northern team were Suzanne McKnight and Tom Lord both on 96 from new member of the team, Mathew Wernham on 94 which I think is a PB for the newcomer. For the visitors, Will Jones hit the ‘ton’ and in doing so becomes only the second shooter in the IoMRA Leagues this season to date to do so, the other being junior IoMSC Douglas shooter, Thomas Clague who ironically also collected his 100 at Kirk Michael too ! Junior Matthew Roosen was biting on the heels of Jones with a 97 with Andy Traynor and Tony Kneale a point further in arrears. Points in all three Divisions went to IoMSC Sandsiders.

Sulby impress against Castletown

Sulby hosted a ten man team from Castletown and took all three divisions with considerable ease. Sulby’s Division 1 score improved this week to a very creditable 489 x 500 – the highest score of the evening’s three matches, with Phil Quayle leading the way on 99, Andy Mitchell and Peter Faragher were close behind on 98. For the visitors, Richard Arthur continued his excellent form of late, posting a 98 with Steve Gardner and Robin McFee both on 95.
