John Joughin secures Douglas East seat

Former Douglas town councillor John Joughin was voted in as the new MHK for Douglas East in a closely fought contest last night.

He managed to secure the position with just 159 votes, Clare Bettison finished a close second with 146 votes; with Richard Falk just one vote behind in third place.

In total 865 votes were cast, representing a relatively low turn out of 30 per cent.

Mr Joughin will hold the post for a guaranteed ten month period, before next September's general election when he would have to re-contest the seat.
