Driving to a garage to buy cigarettes after drinking has cost a Ballasalla woman her driving licence.
37-year-old Jane Woosey was yesterday banned from driving for two years and fined £1,025 after pleading guilty to drink driving.
Police were called by an anonymous informant at around 9.30pm on September 26th - they said she'd driven away from the Whitestone Pub in Ballasalla after being there earlier in the day.
When officers arrived on scene they found her vehicle parked in the pub's car park - they went to her home to speak to her and noted she had glazed eyes, slurred speech and smelt of intoxicants.
Woosey failed a roadside breath test and was arrested - she told police she'd consumed half a bottle of vodka describing her actions as "stupid".
At Douglas Courthouse yesterday her advocate said the care worker, who has since lost her job, had received "devastating news" days before and had used alcohol as a "coping mechanism".
She said the decision to drive after being at the pub was "catastrophic" and Woosey, who sobbed throughout the sentencing, was "ashamed" of her actions.
