Police say they will make the same effort to investigate historic sexual abuse as they do with current cases.
That's the promise from officers who say regardless of when in life a victim has been abused there is still a chance they can bring the perpetrator to justice.
Last week 39-year-old convicted paedophile Andrew Byrne was sent to prison for over five years for indecently assaulting a child in the early 1990s - his victim made a complaint earlier this year.
She told the court he'd "ruined" her life and she was left asking the question "why did this happen to me".
