Two planes collided at Ronaldsway during TT

Tue, 18 Aug 2015

It's been revealed two private aircraft crashed into each other at Ronaldsway Airport on Senior Race Day.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has published a report into the collision which took place on June 12th at 4.26pm.

Due to it being a race day there were a "large number of aircraft movements" at the Island's airport - with a number of light aircraft parked on the grass whilst waiting for departure clearance.

The pilot of one of the waiting planes had pulled the aircraft's nose onto the taxiway and started the engine waiting for permission to take off.

However another aircraft which had been given clearance, and was taxiing, struck the propeller with its right wing after the pilot judged there was "sufficient room" to clear the waiting aircraft.

Damage was confined to the wing-tip and propeller - no one was injured.
