The combined medal-haul of 23 in total for the shooting team in Jersey, of 7 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze is a magnificent achievement which bodes well for the Island sport of shooting. Rifle target shooting fared very well in the medal tally with the five man/women’s team accounting for 14 of the 23 medals, but obviously, some of the following were for team (pairs) matches. Rachel Glover collected 2 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze, Tracey Skelton picked up 2 Gold and 2 Bronze, Andy Potter - a Gold and a Silver, Mike Duncalf - 2 Gold and a Silver and finally, the fifth member of the team, Mike Clague, managed to shoot personal best results in both of the events he competed in – the very difficult 3 position Rifle and the 10 metre Air Rifle match. Although Rachel is living in York, we will adopt her for these competitions and the remainder are all members of the Isle of Man Shooting Club and congratulations must go to all for such a magnificent result.

Trophy matches

Harry Creevy has been at the top of the results in nearly every one of the 10 rounds of the first Osborn Carpets 600 matches and this Monday saw round 1 of the second series of 600 matches and Creevy once again hit the lead. The match proved to be very close at the top with Creevy hitting 585 x 600, Andy Potter just back from Jersey on 584 and his Island Games team mate, Mike Duncalf on 582. The evening’s weather was winter-like to say the least with gusty wind and torrential rain at times flooding the range. Stewart Watterson acted as range officer and the match got underway promptly at 7 pm due mainly to the increasing darkness. Many of those who finished the match complained that it had been difficult to actually see the targets clearly - however the same conditions affected each of those who shot, so excuses regarding the conditions cannot be voiced. Special mention must go to 16 year old Thomas Clague who not only posted a personal best score of 578, but also hit his first ever 100 in competition, one of just three ‘full houses’ shot during the evening.
