A Medical Ward at Noble's Hospital has been closed to admissions due to the presence of the bacterial infection MRSA.
Nine patients are carrying the bug in Ward 5 - but are showing no signs or symptoms of illness or infection.
They are currently undergoing 'skin clearance' or 'decononisation'.
It can be spread through skin-to-skin contact, and with contaminated objects such dressings, sheets and hard surfaces.
Patients and their relatives have been informed that measures have been put in place to help contain any further spread.
The length of their isolation will be determined this afternoon.
