Shooting Round-Up

Terrific scores on Monday evening at Sinclair

Round 4 of the Osborn Carpets first 600 Scratch match on Monday evening produced some excellent results for several of the Island’s top shooters. Ben Kelly, back on the Island for the summer from Edinburgh University, managed to make the firing line having missed the first 3 rounds of the weekly competitions and almost won the match being beaten by 1 point by Mike Duncalf. Duncalf, Kelly and Harry Creevy all posted 100’s in the match – both Creevy and Kelly produced double 100’s. Just 10 points separated the top 7 of the 20 shooters who entered and this could well be down to the excellent weather conditions. Although very cold and overcast, the wind was practically non-existent giving all 20 firing point’s identical conditions. Full results were:-

Sam Jones wins his first Empire Garage Tynwald Shield Handicap medal

In the Empire Garage Tynwald Shield Handicap, teenager Sam Jones managed to win this week’s medal from two other teenagers, Matthew Roosen by 4 points and Illiam Christian just a point further in arrears. I am guessing that the club’s competition secretary will be keeping his eye on some of these handicaps. Having said that, Jones has only been shooting 50 metres competitively for four weeks and I know he will relish in the fact that he may get a reduced handicap – he is a determined youngster. Full results were:-

1 – Sam Jones                                    556 + 60 = 616

2 – Matthew Roosen                      566 + 46 = 612

3 – Illiam Christian                            573 + 38 = 611

4 – Tony Kneale                                573 + 38 = 611

5 – Christian Eaton (J)                     551 + 60 = 611

6 – Steve Callus                                                 565 + 45 = 610

7 – Patrick Cubbon (J)                    550 + 60 = 610

8 – Bill Jones                                       576 + 32 = 608

9 – Andy Traynor                              579 + 28 = 607

10 – Mike Clague                              582 + 25 = 607
